Hindsight: Surprise, Surprise…

The day Dr. Nutis figured out that I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I was so happy! I’m still surprised that it took two years to find a doctor who knew how to help me improve

After arriving in London, my fellow patients at the Optimum Health Clinic were really amazed that there wasn’t a similar program in California. After all, isn’t everything bigger and better in America?

As far as I know, OHC is the only clinic in the world that treats nothing but Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia (and possibly the other chronic exhaustive illnesses). But more importantly, for some reason there are more resources in the UK – tests, retreats, clinics – for dealing with ME/CFS than I’ve ever found in the United States. And that’s the biggest surprise of all.

Day 12 (April 12) – Hindsight

  • If you could go back in time and talk to yourself (or your loved one) on the day of diagnosis, what would you say? OR
  • What have you learned about being a patient/caregiver that has surprised you most?

  1. Amazing, isn’t it? I agree… Why there is such a paucity of resources for people here in the US is astonishing. But then England has a long-standing love affair with alternative approaches….there is more respect for homeopathy, osteopathy, and vegetarianism. And the social healthcare system may mean that people in general can afford to be more open-minded.

Big Pharma is so powerful here in the US, affecting everything from what medical resources are available to education ( both formal and informal).

Have you been on retreats for people with ME/CFS while you have been there?
